Ministries of Celebration & Community

I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

John 10:10
You may be surprised to see a category of ministry entitled celebration and community.  But, take a moment to reflect on the life of Jesus, and you will realize that his life was filled with moments of joy and fellowship.  In fact, one of the charges made against him was that he went to too many parties (Luke 7:34) and had too much fun (Matthew 9: 9-17).  Jesus' response to these charges was that he came to bring abundant life, to transform our daily struggle with sorrow and disappointments with an underlying joy which could not be taken away, because of the deep sense of community we share in Christ.
We want to encourage each member to feel a part of the family of believers at Quaker. One way we nurture the family here is by doing what all families do; we play together and share special moments together.  When the holiday seasons come, we celebrate them with our family at Quaker whether it’s our fall festival, our Christmas party or planning a members’ golf tournament.  We have special services honoring important passages in life such as new births, the beginning of school and graduation, marriage and the final passing from life.

Baby Dedication Service

Each year we celebrate all the newborns in our congregation and sometimes others related to members asking the Lord’s blessings on them and their families as well as reminding the Church of its important role in the spiritual formation of our children.

Christmas Party

A wonderful time of sharing together and welcoming our newer members who are invited to place their own family ornament on our church family Christmas tree.

Church Retreats

We occasionally have special retreats for the whole church (or various sub-groups of members) with special times of fellowship and worship.

Fall Festival

A congregational festival during Halloween season that provides a safe and spiritually positive environment for our children (and members!) to celebrate the fall holiday.

Graduate Sunday

Each year we celebrate our high school and college graduates with special recognition and a prayer of blessing.  Graduates have tables set up in activity center with their school activities and accomplishments on display.

Memorial Service

Each year we take a time during our Christmas party to remember the loved ones of our members who have passed on the preceding year.  The service includes adding an ornament on a memorial Christmas tree honoring our loved ones.

Musicals

Occasionally we have musical/dramatic presentations for the community involving members of all ages in the singing and other production needs.  Special “sermons in songs’ are also frequently presented in our Sunday morning services.

New Schoolers Dedication Service

Each year we celebrate and pray a blessing upon our children who are beginning school for the first time.  In the service the parents present a bookmark with an appropriate scripture on it and the children receive a Bible from the church to communicate how God’s Word is the foundation of all learning.

New Year's Eve Party

An evening of food, fellowship and games until midnight when we bring in the new year in prayer.

Quaker Hackers' Annual Golf Outing

An opportunity for members who enjoy hitting the links to include a round of good fellowship as well.

Summer Excitement Sunday

The Sunday of Summer excitement is an exciting service in which we pray blessings upon the students and team leaders of Summer Excitement and usually a lunch together.

Jailbreak

On the Wednesday night of Summer Excitement, all students come worship at Quaker followed by a time of music, refreshments and celebration hosted by Quaker members.
