Ministry Staff

david langford

Senior Minister

David and Lisa began working with Quaker part time in 1988 while David was completing his doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy at Texas Tech.  He began serving full time in 1992 as an associate minister with Ellmore Johnson and in 2000 became senior minister.   In addition to his doctorate, David holds M.A. degrees in Communication from Texas Tech University and in Bible and Ministry from Lubbock Christian University.  David leads our ministry team as well as overseeing the teaching and pastoral ministries of the church. He also serves as one of our shepherds.  David serves as a liaison to several community ministries in which Quaker is involved.  David and Lisa have three adult children, Trent, Devon and Abbey.

Associate Minister

Carey and Tonda began worshipping at Quaker in 1996. In 1997, Carey began working part time with Quaker and after completing his Master of Divinity at Abilene Christian University in 2000, he came on full time.  Carey's responsibilities include leading our Life Group ministry, overseeing church communications and publications, facilitating the integration and involvement of members, leading our safety team and serving as a liaison to the deacons in their care of the facility.    Carey and Tonda have two adult sons, Caleb and Cason.

Youth & Family Minister

Jason and Keri began working with Quaker in 2007.   Jason coordinates our youth and children's ministries.  Jason has a M.A. in Bible and Ministry from Lubbock Christian University and is also a graduate of the South Houston Bible Institute.  He and Keri have two adult children, Grant and Raylee.

shawn tyler

Missions Coordinator

Shawn and Linda Tyler transitioned back to the states after serving as Quaker's missionaries to Kenya and Uganda for more than 30 years, from 1981 to 2012, and co-leads our Missions Committee with Jason Moore. Shawn also serves as one of our shepherds. Shawn and Linda facilitate Quaker's involvement in missions as well as developing additional stateside support for our ongoing involvement in the Kenya and Uganda work and other mission efforts. Shawn is  a member of the Missions and Bible faculty at Lubbock Christian University and Director for MissionLink, an Institute of Mission at LCU, promoting greater mission involvement among students, churches, and non-profit organizations. Shawn holds a M.A. in Biblical and Related Studies from Abilene Christian University.

tonda jones

Church Secretary

Tonda has attended Quaker since 1996 and became the church secretary in 2017.  She manages the church office, prepares our many weekly publications, coordinates membership information and oversees the church calendar.  Tonda is at the church Monday through Friday, from 8am to 1pm.

mary hughes

Receptionist

Mary has served as the church receptionist since 1995.  She and her husband Carroll have been members at Quaker since 1994.  Mary updates and facilitates the communication through our church mailboxes. Mary is at the church Tuesday through Friday, from 9am to 12pm.

Donna smith

Church Treasurer

Donna has served Quaker Avenue as its treasurer since 2018.  Donna oversees all financial record keeping for both Quaker Avenue and our mission work. She also assists the deacons in developing and adapting the annual budget.

julie purdy

Financial Secretary

Julie grew up at Quaker and began working on the church administrative staff in 2020.  She coordinates our financial record keeping and assists our church treasurer, Donna Smith.

faye Sigle

Benevolence Coordinator

Faye coordinates the distribution of benevolence funds from our monthly benevolence collection and follows up with individuals needing special assistance.  Faye also works with several agencies and ministries in Lubbock who reach out to the poor and those in need.  She is an Education Specialist with the Texas Boys Ranch, where husband John serves as Director. She and John began attending Quaker in 2013. 

Shepherds

REX ADAMSON

Rex has served as a shepherd since 1994.  Rex and Charmaine began attending Quaker as college students.  While members here, they were married in 1975.  They moved away in 1980 but returned for good in 1986. Rex and Charmaine are both retired.

SCOTT BLOOMER

Scott has served as a shepherd since 2020. Scott and Kristi were married in 1987 and began attending Quaker in 2008. Scott is active in our worship and praise services. Scott and Kristi own Scott Lane Construction where they work together in the home construction and remodeling industry.

CHUCK BRYANT

Chuck has served as a shepherd since 2020. Chuck and Kimberly have attended Quaker Avenue since 2000.  They are involved in various ministries at Quaker, including Carpenter’s Kitchen and serving as life group co-leaders.  Chuck is an IT project manager for Wells Fargo, and Kimberly is the accounting and human resources manager for Media Support Group.

BILL FLEMMONS

Bill has served as a shepherd since 1992.  Bill and Janice met as students at Texas Tech, while attending the Memphis Avenue congregation (before the church moved to Quaker Avenue).  They were married in 1971.  They have moved away and returned twice over the years, moving back for good in 2001.  Bill is a retired Business Systems consultant/operations manager with Wells Fargo Bank.  Janice is also retired after serving many years as the Chief Financial Officer for Ronald Macdonald House.

STEVE GOMEZ

Steve began serving as a shepherd in 2014.  Steve and Shawna met as students at Lubbock Christian University and were married in 1990.  They have attended Quaker since that time. Steve is the head women's basketball coach at Lubbock Christian University.  Shawna is the compliance analyst at City Bank.

KENNETH HAWLEY

Kenneth has served as an shepherd at Quaker since 2020. Kenneth and Deborah met as college students at Texas Tech while attending Quaker. They were married in 1997. After moving away to complete Kenneth's schooling, they returned to Quaker in 2004. Kenneth is professor of english at Lubbock Christian University. Deborah is the Director of Admissions at Lubbock Christian School. They have three boys, Will, Ben and Cole.

CURT LANGFORD

Curt began serving Quaker as a shepherd in 2023.  Curt and Jill have been attending Quaker since 1988, the year they were married, with Curt attending well before that.  Curt is president and CEO of Texas Tech's Alumni Association.  Jill is formerly an elementary/special education teacher.  They have two young adult children, Grant and Grace.

DAVID LANGFORD

David has served as a shepherd since 2001 and as a minister since 1988.  David grew up at Quaker and previously served as college minister in 1978-79.  Lisa was a student at Lubbock Christian University.  David and Lisa were married in 1983 and returned to Quaker in 1984.  Lisa is a private piano instructor.

RODNEY LEE

Rodney has served as a shepherd since 2010.  Rodney and Perri met while attending Quaker as college students at Texas Tech.  They were married in 1979 and have attended Quaker ever since.  Rodney is a courier with Fed Ex.  Perri teaches Texas history at Shallowater Middle School.

KEVIN MCCULLOUGH

Kevin has served as a shepherd since 2010.  Kevin grew up at Quaker.  Kevin and Leslie met in high school and were married in 1991.  They have attended Quaker since.  He is a solution architect with Ericsson.

RANDY PRICE

Randy has served as a shepherd at Quaker since 2004.  He and Shelly met as students at Lubbock Christian University, both attending Quaker.  They were married in 1985 and have attended Quaker since.  Randy is a driver for Sherwin Williams.  Shelly teaches math at Lubbock Christian Schools.



DELL PURDY

Dell has served as a shepherd at Quaker since 2020. Dell and Julie met while students at Tech. Julie grew up at Quaker. They were married at Quaker in 2000 and have been members since that time. Dell is Vice President of Regulatory Compliance at AMA TechTel. Julie is administrative assistant for Scott Lane Homes and runs a small business, Purdy Girl Cakes and Cookies. They have three children, daughter Hannah and sons Ryan and Ethan.

CLINTON SMITH

Clinton began serving as a shepherd in 2017.  He and Donna met as students at Tech and were married at Quaker in 1990.   They have been members at Quaker since that time, except for a short period when Clinton served as principal in Floydada, Texas.  Clinton co-owns and manages Time Crunch Escapes.  Donna is a certified public accountant.



SHAWN TYLER

Shawn has served as a shepherd at Quaker since 2014.  He and Linda met in high school, and they were married in 1978.  Shawn attended the Farmers Branch Training Work.  They then served as missionaries for Quaker in Kenya and Uganda for more than 30 years, moving back to the states in 2012.  Shawn also serves on the faculty in the Bible and Missions department at Lubbock Christian University.



Deacons

JIM BRET CAMPBELL

Jim Bret has served as a deacon since 2020.  Jim Bret and Teri both attended Quaker Avenue while attending Texas Tech University in the 1990s. After living in Amarillo and Fort Worth, they returned to Quaker in 2017.  They have two sons, Cash and Cooper. Jim Bret is executive director of the National Ranching Heritage Center, and Teri is a reading interventionist at Alderson Elementary.

ERIC GOSSETT

Eric began serving as a deacon in 2023.  Eric and Tasha have attended Quaker Avenue since 1995 and were married here in 1999.  Eric is a chief financial officer for New Deal Schools and Tasha is a school counselor.  They have two children, Hunter and Dylan.  


ELOY GUERRA

Eloy has served as a deacon since 2020. He and Gracie began attending Quaker while college students at Texas Tech University and married in 1992. After graduation from college in 1994, Eloy and Gracie took a very long hiatus, about 23 years, while serving in the military.  Eloy and Gracie are back, and they are accompanied by Eloy Jr., Isabella, and Natalia.  Eloy and Gracie both work at Texas Tech in Information Technology Division and Military and Veterans Programs, respectively.  

JACOB HENDRIX

Jacob has served as a deacon since 2020 and is Quaker’s maintenance man. He grew up in Shallowater and has attended Quaker since 1999. Jacob and Audrey married in 2015. Jacob has a welding business and an online wooden craft business. Audrey works part time at Family Promise of Lubbock. They have two sons, Jade, and Bryce.


JOSHUA HENDRIX

Joshua has served as a deacon at Quaker since 2014.  Josh grew up at Quaker and met Rachael while they were students at Lubbock Christian University. They were married in 2009.  Josh manages his own online business.  Rachel is a former science teacher at Frenship Schools and now homeschools their three boys and is a sign language instructor.

KYLER LEE

Kyler began serving as a deacon in 2023.  He and Meagan grew up at Quaker Avenue and were married in 2012.  Kyler is a physical therapist and Meagan is a pediatric nurse working at Covenant's NICU.

CRISS MORRISON

Criss has served as a deacon at Quaker since 1997.  Criss and Kaylane began attending Texas Tech in 1986.  They were married in 1987 and have attended Quaker since.  Criss is a UPS driver and Kaylane is a pediatric nurse at Covenant.  They have three adult children.

BILL PERKINS

Bill and Tabatha first came to Quaker in 2016, following their move to Lubbock.  Bill is a carpenter at Texas Tech's Museum and Tabatha is an office administrator at Mission Services.  They have two adult children, Ridge and Olivia.

PAUL READ

Paul has served as a deacon at Quaker since 2020. Paul has been a member of Quaker since 2007. Paul and Katie are the parents of Addison and Noah. Paul teaches for Frenship ISD with a focus on at-risk youth.

JEFF SELLERS

Jeff and Lisa were member at Quaker from 2006-2009.  After being away a few years, they returning in 2021.  Jeff and Lisa work together in their real estate business, The Sellers Realty.  They have five adult children.  

BLAINE SEXTON

Blaine has served as a deacon at Quaker since 2017. He and Syd were married in 2005.  Blaine is a retired from teaching and coaching at Frenship High School.  Syd is a coordinator at the Region 17 Education Service Center.

DAVID SHAW

David grew up at the Broadway Church of Christ and Tracy began attending Quaker in 1981.  They married in 2005 and then began attending Quaker together. David is a nurse anesthetist and Tracy is a nurse at Covenant.   They have two daughters, Ava and Audra.

BYRON STICKNEY

Byron has served as a deacon since 2020.  Sarah has attended Quaker since 1999. They married in 2013 and after living in the Dallas area, they returned to Lubbock and Quaker in 2016. They have 3 children, Ellianne, Calder, and Ivy. Byron currently works as a project manager for Johnson Controls Fire Protection and Sarah is a stay-at-home mom and co-owner with her sister in law, Rachael Hendrix, of Orange & Olive gifts.
